Select Your Track

StartX Med Track

This track is for (a) pre-med undergraduate students, (b) graduate students in the School of Medicine (or an adjacent field, such as bioinformatics), or (c) business-minded students with some experience in the medical field. In this track you will have the opportunity to rapidly grow your skills and expertise working directly with founder companies and providing operational leadership for StartX Med. We are looking for highly creative and adaptive team members to learn through understanding stakeholder needs, thoughtfully designing and delivering key experiences for founders, and ultimately maximizing the StartX Med entrepreneurs' abilities to collaborate with each other. This role may be a fit for you if you are interested in learning from founders and seeing up close what it takes to build a successful start-up. You can expect to rapidly grow your user research, relationship-building, communication and entrepreneurial skill sets.

Investor Relations Track

This track is for those inspired by the Silicon Valley funding landscape and how start-ups prepare to raise rounds, as well as those students who aspire to build a strong sense of what a good demo day pitch looks like through the StartX Community's built-in feedback loops. StartX helps connect our entrepreneurs with top investors in Silicon Valley and globally. StartX Interns in the Investor Relations track will need to learn how to manage investor communication, facilitate mentorship and coaching for founders, and monitor entrepreneurship and industry trends. You can expect to start out in the admissions process where StartX founders build their pitches and get feedback from experts in the community, and work your way up toward StartX's Investor Demo Day platform which brings together top Silicon valley investors along with the companies participating in the demo day event.

B2B / Industry Partnerships Track

This track is for students who aim to increase their exposure to corporate executives and knowledge of leaders in industry. StartX sources new corporate partners each year, based on real-world trends in the fastest growing industries around the world. Work side-by-side with StartX's top entrepreneurs and learn how to build a business development playbook that commands the attention of any corporate executive. StartX Interns in this track will begin with small single-industry market research projects, and work your way up to delivering live presentations to global Fortune 500 Executives. Along the way you can also expect to quickly sharpen skills in external relations, community-building and event design, as well as gain real-world experience in facilitation, communication and project management. If you are a graduate student with deep research experience in a specific industry, it can be eye-opening to uncover the inner workings of the real-world corporations that power your industry on the other side.

Content Creation / User Growth Track

Showcase your creativity and adaptability to craft stories, generate inspiring content, and learn + frame the narratives of what makes the best Stanford founders so successful all across the startup ecosystem. Students in this track will drive an overall social media strategy across the Stanford entrepreneurship community, lead first-hand interactions with the success stories and shared wisdoms that have led StartX entrepreneurs to so much success, and will be expected to conduct research, create social media plans, track and share results. You do not need to be a master in all fields but must have an eye for detail, be able to take feedback, meet deadlines, and be ready to learn fast to drive engagement. You can expect to gain real-world branding experience, interact with Stanford's top founders & mentors, and accumulate a portfolio of successful content, framed for individual audiences while learning how to effectively leverage an organization’s unique value to drive growth. Top performing StartX Interns in the B2C / User Growth track will earn the ability to lead StartX's entire content strategy.

Co-Managing Director, Student Accelerator

This track is for students who strive to lead StartX's Student-in-Residence Accelerator, with capacity to drive community-building, mentorship, education and resource delivery. Passion for the orgniazational mission and willingness to learn are a must. Explore how Stanford’s best student entrepreneurs operate and rapidly grow start-ups as they build strong foundations. You can expect to rapidly grow your user research, relationship-building, communication and experience design skill sets. Along the way, you will develop the ability to deeply understand the needs of founders, and design innovative ways for mutually-beneficial connections. StartX Interns in this track will begin with a small events management project, and work your way up to increasingly larger strategic components of the accelerator. If you demonstrate excellence in this role, you will also be considered for leadership roles when new StartX Interns join in the following quarter.

Internal Operations Track

This track is the best fit for students interested in understanding the role of C-level executives in an organization, and how to successfully navigate their way through the challenges that come with it. The success of the StartX community begins with our StartX team and the internal operations we strategize, craft, and execute. Students in this track can expect to manage and oversee daily business operations at StartX, addressing critical challenges that come along with these tasks, building team culture, owning operational projects, and ensuring that internal operations support StartX’s vision and strategy. Interns in this track will gain experience in project management, adult learning design, execution of a project life cycle, and entrepreneurial skill set. You should apply if you are the COO of a startup or interested in what a COO role entails.

Digital and Content Creator Intern

As a Digital and Content Creator intern, leverage your social media and marketing skills to increase the profile of StartX on Stanford's campus, in Silicon Valley and beyond. From TikTok video development to newsletter design, bring your full creative skillset as you amplify the voices of our exceptional founder community. Work closely with StartX leadership to define brand strategy, develop and post content and track outcomes. Depending on time committed, a stipend is available.

• Plan, organize, and promote key StartX events on campus, such as Campus Demo Day, info sessions, social gatherings, speaker events, and hackathons.
• Build and sustain strong relationships with campus accelerators, entrepreneurship organizations, student groups, communities, and faculty/staff.
• Serve as a StartX ambassador by representing and advocating for StartX at events on campus and sharing campus opportunities/resources with the StartX community.
• Actively source and engage with promising founders from across all schools to identify the next generation of entrepreneurial talent for StartX.

An Event Volunteer is a fun, lightweight role that grants access to private events at StartX where you can listen to and meet with Stanford entrepreneurs, investors, mentors, and experts. The work is simple:

• Before the event: set up chairs, tables, food, print name tags, signage and feedback surveys
• During the event: registrations and check people in, help with food and drinks serving, clean up, direct people, collect feedback
• After the event: clean up

Qualities expected: proactive, team player, ready to help and get hands dirty, egoless

Benefit: access to listen to the talk and network during the event when the work is done. Create relationships with the founders.

Sample Projects: VIP Night, Midway Expo, Community Dinners with StartX Founders, Founder Talks, VC Panels, Unicorn Founders Panels.

Commitment

Minimum number of hours: 4 hours per event, 1 event per month, usually afternoon (2PM-6PM) or evening events (5PM-9PM), upon student availability

The Event Coordinator Volunteer role offers the chance to manage the full lifecycle of events at StartX, from concept to execution, while gaining valuable experience and access to a vibrant entrepreneurial community. The work involves:

• Days before the event: Brainstorm event concepts with the team, source speakers, identify the target audience, create an event marketing and communication plan, and execute on it. This includes communicating with founders, creating lu.ma events, reaching out to speakers, attracting guests, and ordering food and drinks.
• Day of event: Set up chairs, tables, food, print name tags, signage, and feedback surveys. Handle registrations, check-in guests, help with food and drinks serving, direct people, collect feedback, and clean up after the event.
• Days after the event: Measure and analyze event success (e.g., attendance, speaker and guest satisfaction), and propose improvements.

Qualities expected: Proactive, team player, ready to help and get hands dirty, egoless.

Program Manager Responsibilities

Design StartX's educational curriculum and source experts to bring cutting-edge experiential learning to founders:

• Grow and manage StartX's pipeline of experts in each of our industry verticals (Med, Sustainability, etc.) and business functions (Fundraising, Sales, etc,).
• Design a comprehensive curriculum of events each session (talks, panels, workshops, and office hours) adapted to the founder's goals, stages, industries, and markets.

Plan and execute Program Events to provide customized and relevant experience to founders:

• Plan and execute weekly events and coordinate 1-2 larger milestone events per session.
• Run events at the highest level of quality, managing deadlines and costs, and coordinating staff and volunteers.
• Measure and analyze impact to improve programming and develop new offers.

Build the StartX Library & Resources to be the best entrepreneurial library out of Stanford:

• Curate and organize the most relevant existing StartX learning resources (videos, documents, people, templates, etc.) into our industry verticals and business functions.
• Source, crowd-source, and curate cutting-edge business resources in the Stanford and start-up ecosystem; organize these resources in creative, comprehensive, and impactful formats easily accessible to founders.

Support Founders to make an outsized impact on their companies in a 10 week period:

• Build close relationships with several startups every session; lead regular check-ins, help them navigate the StartX ecosystem, and provide them with individualized support that will contribute to start-up success.
• Leverage StartX resources and community to identify tailored learning experiences.

Desired Experience

2+ years of startup, venture, or accelerator experience plus 2+ years of any of the following:
